Copynotes: Notes from librarian: -'The extra item in our 1617 edition is "Prosopopoia. Or Mother Hubbards Tale", with its own title page, London, printed by HL for Mathew Lownes, 1613. This comes immediately after the Shepherd's Calendar, is signed A and numbered to 16 pages. This is followed by the "Letter of the Author ... To ... Sir Walter Raleigh", "A Vision Upon This conceit of the Faery Queene" and 4 leaves of dedicatory sonnets, signed pilcrow 1-4 and presumably onto [7] followed by a blank leaf which might be pilcrow [8], I guess. Then starts "Colin Clouts" and the order as in the 1611 edition.' Correspondence of 7/6/10 (w/ Sandra Bailey) (in order of appearance): Gen. t.p.: 1617 Pt. 1 FQ: It's YOung Knight. There's no colophon to 1st Part. Pt. 2 FQ: It's 1612, and the colophon has 16012. SC: 1617 Prosopopoia: 1613 Letter to Raleigh: Allego-. Signatures with pilcrow. CCCHA: 1617
Editionnotes: Notes from Eureka: A third "reissue" of the 1609 edition, though both parts are now actually in later settings. Part 1 still has the 1611 cancel title page and conjugate dedication of the first reissue (STC 23083.3). The text of part 1 has now been reset (the 1615 date conjectured by STC); B3r stanza 1 begins "Young Knight". Part 2 still has separate title page dated 1612 or 1613 (stop-press variants) and R3r catchword reads "And". Pagination and register are continous. The last leaf is blank. Ideally issued with STC 23086.3, 23093.5, 23077.3, and 23087, though some copies have parts from the 1617 editions. Match subsidiary parts separately. Note: 1612 In verse. Printer’s name from STC. The colophon is dated "16012" [sic]. The second part has separate title page dated 1612; pagination and register are continuous. Variant: this title page dated 1613. The last leaf is blank. A reissue of STC 23084, with cancel general title page and dedication. Signatures: A⁶(-A1+pi²) B-P⁶ Q⁴ R-2H⁶. Issued with STC 23086.7, 23094, 23077.7, and 23087. Some copies have STC 23087.5 in place of the last.
